The TUI Care Foundation has released new metrics on its international coastal defense initiatives, marking over 2.8 million sea turtle hatchlings protected across critical nesting zones like Cabo Verde, Greece, Türkiye, and Italy. On the island of Sal alone, continuous conservation efforts led to the protection of more than 78,000 nests. By utilizing night patrols and conducting more than 1,500 drone flights to monitor nesting females without introducing artificial light pollution, field teams dropped local turtle mortality rates by 62% since 2022.

The Coastal 500 network has officially surpassed its initial growth targets, uniting more than 500 local government leaders across eight highly biodiverse coastal countries—including Indonesia, Brazil, and the Philippines. Guardians of the Skimmer: Grassroots River Bird Recovery

Grassroots conservationist Parveen Shaikh has been awarded the prestigious Whitley Award for her highly successful efforts to protect the endangered Indian skimmer along the Chambal and Ganga river systems. By launching a community-based project that employs local residents to monitor and protect vulnerable riverside nests from habitat destruction and disturbance, nest survival rates effectively doubled from 14% to 27%.
